GAiDFLY is a voice-based debate partner for strategy education. A student takes a position on a hard, open question — or defends a paper they wrote — and GAiDFLY takes the other side: an adversarial but friendly peer that presses, concedes good points, and never grades. Ten to fifteen minutes of arguing out loud, then a written debrief of the ideas explored and how the argument held under pressure.

Why voice

Peer-reviewed research at Columbia Business School analyzed nearly a thousand student debates with an AI adversary and found that debating by voice — rather than typing — was associated with significantly greater divergent ideation: students explored a measurably wider range of ideas (Jain & Wang, 2026; see the CAiSEY research program). Speaking is also how strategy is actually defended — in seminars, oral examinations, and decision meetings.

How it works

  1. Faculty supply the curriculum: an open debate question with two stances, a case reading, or a student's own strategy paper.
  2. The student picks a side and makes the opening argument out loud. GAiDFLY argues the other side — grounded in the assigned material — one challenge at a time.
  3. Both student and faculty receive a debrief: ideas explored, pressure points and how they were handled, where ground was conceded and where it was held.

Who it's for

Professional military education and graduate strategy classrooms — anywhere the standard of proof is a student who can defend their reasoning aloud, and where faculty time for one-on-one oral examination is the scarcest resource in the building. GAiDFLY is rehearsal for the student and evidence for the instructor; the live defense stays human.
